The Fundació Antoni Tàpies was created by the artist himself in 1984 in order to create a space for the crafting and promotion of contemporary art.

Besides several hundred pieces of his own, the gallery holds countless expositions of modern works from all creative fields.

The building was designed by modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and finished in 1885.

It is considered one of the earliest examples of Barcelonas modernist revolution in architecture.
